How do I love thee, avocado? Let me count the ways: on toast, in smoothies, in salads, dressed up as pudding, baked into sweet treats. But as much as we love avocados for their healthy fats and ability to make meals satiating, they’re kind of a pain in the ass to deal with. They take forever to ripen (and only stay ripe for about 3.5 seconds before turning brown), and slicing them open is a risky game where the goal is to not cut off your fingers. Welch’s understands the struggle and has now created bags of frozen, precut avocado chunks that are perfectly ripe. This makes it super convenient to add them to smoothies to make them creamy and keep them cold, or you can thaw them out to use in a variety of recipes. However, these bags aren’t widely available just yet. Right now, you can only buy the bags of frozen avocado in a selection of regional retailers.
If your grocery store is lucky enough to carry them, stock up so you always have avocados at the ready. In the meantime, we’ll just wait patiently for our avocados to ripen so we can cut them up and freeze them.
