THE LOVE The Happiness 100-Day Planner, $30

Nothing beats the satisfaction of putting pen to paper. While all the writing I do as an editor happens on a computer, I’m still a huge fan of old-school to-do lists and prefer brainstorming ideas on paper. The many notebooks I’ve collected have done overtime playing host to my lightbulb moments, meal logs, dreams, and sad attempts at bullet journaling, but none of them have been as gratifying to use as The Happiness Planner.

Don’t let the on-the-nose name deter you—this agenda/diary does wonders for both day-to-day organizing and big picture goals. I need structure to get things done, and this 100-day planner gives me that and more. What I enjoy most about it is how it encourages self-reflection. You’re asked to create lists, like what makes you happy or unhappy, habits you want to change, what you’re grateful for, your definition of success, and what you’ve accomplished. You’re also guided through exercises to create actionable next steps and plan goals for the next week to 10 years out. I like to think of it as having a life coach in your purse.

#ELLEloves is a daily place to share the things ELLE editors love. Because sharing is caring.

Even the daily agenda section, usually reserved for tracking mundane tasks, asks you to dig deeper by having you verbalize a “main focus” for the day and answer prompts like “what I hope for tomorrow” and “what I’m grateful for.”

If you’re rolling your eyes, I don’t blame you. A “happiness planner” sounds like another froufrou wellness gimmick. As someone who finds meditating impossible and is skeptical about crystals as more than pretty desk ornaments, I feel you. But, in the hustle of my fast-paced job, I rarely find time to check in with myself and think about personal and professional goals. This planner cuts distractions and keeps me inspired—a major upgrade from haphazard bullet points in the Notes app if you ask me.
