Oh, Toto. I don’t think we’re in Chicago anymore. Today the first image of Oscar-winner Renée Zellweger in costume and makeup as movie icon Judy Garland was released and it’s astounding.

Is it too much to say with this image a star is born? This is Judy we’re talking about! Nothing is too much! She is a legend and we have decided to hyperbolize.
Zellweger, who was nominated for her singing and dancing turn as Roxie Hart in the movie musical Chicago and also sang opposite Ewan McGregor in the near-perfect pastiche Down With Love, takes her pipes out for another spin for her role in the upcoming biopic Judy.
As the image would suggest, Zellweger takes on the legend later in life, following Garland as she performs a series of sold out London concerts in 1968. The performances would turn out to be her final concerts; Garland died in 1969 at the age of 47. Principal filming for Judy began today in London. It features a script by The Crown scribe Tom Edge and is directed by Rupert Goold. The film also features The Man in the High Castle’s Rufus Sewell, Harry Potter‘s Michael Gambon, Finn Wittrock of American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. No release date is currently set.
