When we’re looking to change up our own diet to be cleaner and healthier, it always helps to get tips from the pros out there. That’s where Leah Itsines comes in. She’s the author of the brand new e-book called Bare, which includes over 50 recipes, meal plans, and shopping lists, all of which are designed to help you live your healthiest life ever. Leah teamed up with certified dietitian Emily Hartley to bring you all the information you need to get your diet on track.
You may recognize Leah’s last name. That’s because she and Kayla Itsines, creator of the successful fitness program BBG, are sisters. It’s safe to say dedication to health and wellness runs in the family! We caught up with Leah to get the inside scoop on what she eats on a daily basis, because we all could learn a thing or two from her.
“I often eat a large variety of foods each day and don’t restrict myself at all!” she shared. “My daily diet often consists of eggs, bread, olive oil, olives, rice, meat, seafood (I love tuna!), and loads of veggies.”
Rather than restricting herself from certain food groups, Leah just focuses on eating whole foods as often as possible. “As long as you’re fueling your body with a good number of nutrients, you’ll be on your way to maintaining a healthy diet,” she said. “In all honesty, there isn’t one ‘diet’ or shoe that fits all. Being healthy is all about doing what works best for you and your lifestyle.”
One common “healthy” food she recommends staying away from, however, is store-bought granola. “Most (not all) have a very high sugar content, which is avoidable if you make it at home,” she told POPSUGAR. “When reading food labels, the ingredients list is listed in order of foods by weight, so largest to smallest. If sugar is close to the top, I’d pop it back and make your own!”
Lucky for you, making granola at home isn’t that difficult at all. Whatever you choose to cook up in your own kitchen, keep Leah’s mantra in mind: “Everyone should be eating an abundance of wholesome foods and enjoying eating a range of balanced nutrition.” Anyone taking notes?
