8 Things We Wanted to Buy This Week, But Didn’t

Week three of No Shop January is where things have proven to be a little trickier. Fashion Month is on the horizon, so the shoppies for myself and fellow fashion editors are about to kick into overdrive, plus on a personal note I’m very tired of wearing a sweater and jeans everyday, so I’m itching for a bit of a wardrobe update. But since friends also function as accountability coaches, I proud to report that we’re still just eyeing from afar. Here’s what made our Dying to Buy, But Won’t list this week.

I’ve thought about these boots at least four times in the last two weeks. “Wouldn’t it be nice to own a pair of hiking boots that are equal parts practical and polished,” I’ve told myself. Yes, it would. And here they are. —Nikki Ogunnaike, Fashion Features Director, ELLE.com

“I’ve deleted all of my shopping apps and unsubscribed from almost every retail-related email, but for some reason & Other Stories still pops up in my inbox. (I’m not complaining.) While browsing their new arrivals, this dress instantly caught my attention. I love the pleats and the interesting layout of polka dots, but I know in the back of my mind that this dress will probably hang untouched in my closet until it’s warmer out. So I might as well wait and maybe by then it’ll be on sale, too.” —Maria Bobila, Associate Editor, Fashionista.com

“Around this time during the winter, I almost always get sick of every single hoodie and sweater that I own. When this hoodie popped up on my Instagram feed—those damn #spon bots know me too well—I couldn’t help but to click through to learn more. This would be perfect while running around between shows at New York Fashion Week, but my 10 other hoodies will just have to do for now.” —M.B.

“I’ve been fiending for these since after Christmas. My sister and I saw them at the Woodbury Commons outlet, but when I went back to buy them, they didn’t have them in my size anymore. I have a gift card at Saks but since it doesn’t cover the full amount I’ve just been watching them and hoping the price goes down more so I can pull the trigger. Remember: shopping with gift cards is okay on this fast.” —Gabrielle Prescod, ‎Senior Fashion Market Editor, ‎Bustle.com

“I can’t splurge on Balenciaga’s intentionally ugly sneakers but I can go straight to the source: a brand that’s been making ‘em ugly since 1992. My Instagram saved photos is just a library of ~cool~ girls in streetwear and Skechers and now all I want is a pair for myself. I think I’ll take it even further and spend a weekend (this is a very serious endeavor) bedazzling my pair.” —Chloe Hall, Beauty Producer, ELLE.com

“I recently visited a friend who has one of these pullovers and it is the softest, snuggliest thing ever (both inside and out). I thought about buying it to combat the next inevitable Polar Vortex but figured my solution of covering myself in four blankets will suffice for now.” — Madison Feller, Assistant Editor, ELLE.com

“I own this skirt in yellow and I love it. It ruches and hugs in all the right places and is super comfortable. Now the blue is on SUPER sale and I want to buy it so badly. I know it might be silly to buy the same skirt in a different color but, I really do love it!” — Sally Holmes, Executive Editor, ELLE.com

“One of my best friends is having a baby later this month and I’m sitting on my hands trying not to buy things (she frankly probably doesn’t need) for her. But it’s so hard. LOOK AT THESE HEART TUSHY PANTS. Look at this bunny! Look at this SKUNK! It’s all just so adorable. Plus I didn’t know Oeuf had a collab with Reformation!” —S.H.
