Facebook’s Social Good Forum Is Looking to Change the World

If you missed out on #GivingTuesday (or just want to do even more good), all you need to do is head on over to Facebook. Today, at Facebook’s 2nd Annual Social Good Forum, the company made some major announcements that’ll empower communities around the globe to make the world a safer and better place. Some of the noteworthy news includes a new Mentor and Support product that lets mentors connect with mentees, a Blood donations feature that’ll make it easier for people to become blood donors, a “Community Help” API that gives disaster response organizations useful data, a fundraiser API that links up off-Facebook fundraising to Facebook fundraisers, an expansion of their charitable giving tools to more countries, and a donations fund of $50 million. They’ve also eliminated nonprofit fees, so 100% of donations made through Facebook payments to nonprofits will go directly to the organization.

And this is only the beginning, there will be more developments on the social good front going forward. “Earlier this year we changed our whole company’s mission,” said Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. “For the first time in our history we did this, to now focus on giving people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.” A task that is no small feat. To make it a successful undertaking, Facebook is looking to its users. “What our job really is is to go see how people use this platform to do good and then build tools to help you do more,” said explained Zuckerberg. “If we could focus a little more on strengthening our communities it can help us build more common ground and move forward together.” Well said, Zuckerberg.
