Karlie Kloss and Christy Turlington Burns Partner With Cole Haan

Models often get a bad wrap—many say they’re just “walking hangers.” But in the fall 2017 Cole Haan campaign, Karlie Kloss and Christy Turlington Burns are disproving the stereotype. The duo teams up to showcase the inimitable power of two extraordinary women in the one-minute film shot and filmed by Cass Bird. In it the two dance, chat, and lounge on a grey velvet sofa rocking Cole Haan shoes.

ELLE.com caught up with both models to chat fashion, friendship, and feminism.

The name of the campaign is “Extraordinary Women, Extraordinary Stories.” When do you each feel your most extraordinary?

KK: When I’m faced with a new challenge and come out stronger and more driven. My father is an emergency room doctor. Growing up surrounded by the passion and commitment he’s shared with helping others, and saving lives, has been my inspiration to find focus and drive.

CTB: On those days when I manage to do something for myself and those who depend on me without sacrificing one for the other, I feel extraordinary.

Karlie, what’s the best piece of advice Christy’s ever given you?

KK: To trust my instincts. There is so much I hope to accomplish—I have big dreams and aspirations, and Christy has always encouraged me to take chances and find confidence, even in unfamiliar and vulnerable spaces.

And you Christy? What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten from Karlie?

CTB: Karlie reminds me time and again that no matter how busy you are, you can find time for those you hold close. She is one of the most polite and gracious people I have ever met. She inspires me to make more effort maintaining special relationships and has taught me that a little contact can go a long way.

Who is the most extraordinary woman each of you have ever met?

KK: I am surrounded by extraordinary women—from my mom and sisters to role models like Christy Turlington, Melinda Gates, an Sheryl Sandberg, and many more. I admire women around the world using their voices to inspire and help others in creating positive change.

CTB: The first woman who comes to mind is Jennie Joseph, a midwife in central Florida whose work I support through [my charity] Every Mother Counts. She is so dedicated to the health and wellbeing of the women and families in the communities she serves. She is my everyday hero.
